Launched in 2015 in collaboration with comedian Baron Vaughn, the Amphibian Comedy Series gives comedians a unique opportunity to try brand new material in an hour-long set.
Since 2015, Amphibian Stage has been highlighting stand-up comedy’s behind-the-scenes creative process by hosting residencies where comedians try out material to build new acts. Not only do our audiences get to see groundbreaking comedy before it hits the mainstream – when they attend more than once in the residency, they can see the writing process in action as the show shifts from night to night.
Jacqueline Novak – who used her Amphibian residency to develop Get On Your Knees (previously titled How Embarrassing For Her) – sold out three off-Broadway runs of the show in 2019, earning praise from pros like John Mulaney, Amy Schumer, and Ira Glass. Other recent participants in the program include Aparna Nancherla (“Corporate”, “Bojack Horseman”), Rhea Butcher (“Put Your Hands Together”, Take My Wife”) and HBO’s Phoebe Robinson.
Amphibian Stage returns with new, socially distanced, outdoor, stand-up comedy shows this October 30 and 31. The shows will stand out from previous stand-up events at Amphibian – the focus will be on the local comedy scene, with comedians curated by the always funny Paulos Feerow. As the safety of patrons and performers is of primary concern, the entire event will take place outside, in the parking lot of the 120 S. Main Street theatre. All seating will be socially distanced.
