Since the opening of our doors in 2000, Amphibian Stage has sought to open minds. We turn a simple stage into provocative stories, reimagine the world, and breathe life into the national arts scene. Our non-profit theatre company, founded by three alumni of TCU’s Department of Theatre, produces the nation’s most ground-breaking and challenging plays. We continue to surprise audiences with stylistically and thematically varied productions.
We are deeply committed to the arts at large, providing diverse programs for youth and veterans; we constantly strive to drive conversations and change perceptions.
Since the start of the pandemic, we have found new ways to make art in a changing world. Currently, all productions are online-only.
Set deep in the Sagebrush Desert, PACKRAT is a visually stunning puppet-forward play that contemplates humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Puppetry, projections and an original score elegantly come together to create many layers of meaning and emotions. At the center of the action is Bud, a peculiar rodent with a penchant for hoarding humankind’s goods. When a discarded cigar sparks a wildfire, the animals in Bud’s valley flee for their lives. Already an outcast among the desert animals for his hoarding instincts, he gets blamed for the human-made disasters infiltrating their lives. When they ban him from the community, Bud must set out alone amidst a raging fire, to confront human-made dangers and a few natural ones. PACKRAT is a poignant account of Bud’s journey to find his place in the world, and his ultimate realization that the interconnectedness of life rules the day.
Amphibian Stage loves sparking curiosity in the world around us, and that’s part of why we *love* Packrat – from the beautiful real-life ecosystem of the Sagebrush Desert to the stunning puppetry that brings it all to life, there’s a lot to set your creativity alight!

It’s a summer’s morning in 1988 and Tory politician Robin has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife of 30 years, Diana; the picture of a perfect marriage. But all is not as blissful as it seems. Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on, what starts as gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital scrapping quickly turns to blood-sport.
